The MBTA is in the early planning stages for the repair or replacement of the Bacon Street Railroad Bridge, known historically as Bridge No. 34A, over which the former Boston & Albany Railroad tracks (present-day MBTA Framingham/Worcester line) cross over Bacon St. in Wellesley.  The bridge is the last of the turn-of-the-century plate girder style in Wellesley that were installed by the B&A R.R. as part of their grade separation project that began in 1893.  The project lowered or raised the railroad tracks from the main grade of most streets, thus eliminating grade crossings and allowing for more and faster rail travel as the B&A R.R. entered the golden era of rail travel.
